Rock 'N' Roll Art
When Neal Hamilton combined his love of music, experiences as the official photographer for the Rock and Roll Hall of fame, and artistic talents, the result was mesmerizing pop-art extrapolations - paints layered, mediums melded, canvases pushed and prodded into life, and images saturated with electric colors - the true soul of Rock and Roll.

Bootsy Collins by Neal Hamilton - Paint Out Loud, LLC
Bootsy Collins
24" x 48"
Acrylic latex on canvas

The Funkadelics was the first real concert I ever went to. I was hooked. When Bootsy joined the new Parliments/Funkadelics it was explosive. I've since become friends with Bootsy and know that when I did this painting I had to capture his colorful personality. When he smiles at you through the painting, you can feel his energy!

Steven Tyler by Neal Hamilton - Paint Out Loud, LLC
Steven Tyler
24" x 48"
Acrylic latex on canvas

I remember my first time seeing Aerosmith – it was back in the early ‘70’s. Wow, what a wild show it was! This band had a lot of spit and fire. The lead singer, Steven Tyler, had this over the top approach to his performance. The way he looked at you and the way he dressed – I had to capture it in this portrait.

Bruce Springstein by Neal Hamilton - Paint Out Loud, LLC
Bruce Springstein
24" x 48"
Acrylic latex on canvas

Bruce ….. I remember him being the working man’s voice. Bruce and the E-Street Band always dazzled the crowd with great music and down to earth lyrics. Bruce is still doing it and even hit the campaign trail with now President Barack Obama.

Michael Jackson by Neal Hamilton - Paint Out Loud, LLC
Michael Jackson
24" x 48"
Acrylic latex on canvas

In my opinion, Michael Jackson (after his days with the Jackson 5) is one of the greatest performers in the world. This performer came from and was trained by the best of the Motown era. His electrifying stage shows were unbelievable. Though Michael has gone through many looks, I selected this period in his career for this portrait.

Bob Dylan by Neal Hamilton - Paint Out Loud, LLC
Bob Dylan
24" x 48"
Acrylic latex on canvas

I had to paint Bob Dylan as part of this series. Bob is the ultimate Godfather of Rock. So many of my rock heroes were inspired by this legend. Thus, I gave him a look that you will never forget.

Frank Zappa by Neal Hamilton - Paint Out Loud, LLC
Frank Zappa
24" x 48"
Acrylic latex on canvas

I consider myself someone who doesn't follow the crowd, but carves their own place in the world. I have always connected with Frank Zappa because I think he embodies this philosophy by being so outspoken. He took up the cause of freedom of speech through his music in such a fun and comical way. It was enjoyable to capture the antics and quick wit of Zappa through this painting. I had to portray him like we remember him, unpredictable!

Ray Charles by Neal Hamilton - Paint Out Loud, LLC
Ray Charles
24" x 48"
Acrylic latex on canvas

It was around Ray's birthday that I was inspired to start this painting, so wanted to do something more radical with this piece. I used actual metal for his glasses and intensified the colors so that you feel as if Ray is really focusing his attention on you.

Jimi Hendrix by Neal Hamilton - Paint Out Loud, LLC
Jimi Hendrix
24" x 48"
Acrylic latex on canvas

Jimi was the beginning for me; my first real taste of rock 'n' roll. This painting was a challenge as it was hard to decide how to showcase the greatest guitar player. So, I finally decided to keep it simple, spiritual, but powerful.

Alice Cooper by Neal Hamilton - Paint Out Loud, LLC
Alice Cooper
24" x 48"
Acrylic latex on canvas

I’ll never forget the first time I saw Alice Cooper in concert. I didn’t expect what I was getting ready to witness: guillotines, blood, snakes, and a hell of a show! So I tried to capture that scary look in this portrait.

Tina Turner by Neal Hamilton - Paint Out Loud, LLC
Tina Turner
24" x 48"
Acrylic latex on canvas

Tina toured the Rock Hall one night and I photographed her. I saw a different side of Tina that most people don't get to experience. That's the person I tried to capture in this painting; calm, soft, and at peace. She is very in tune with her inner self and I wanted that to be the theme in this portrait.

Sting by Neal Hamilton - Paint Out Loud, LLC
Sting
24" x 48"
Acrylic latex on canvas

This was the first painting I did using this new technique. I started this painting shortly after the fire when I had a burning desire to paint again. I really liked the simplicity, yet realism in the gaze in his eyes that seems to pull you in.

Robert Plant by Neal Hamilton - Paint Out Loud, LLC
Robert Plant
24" x 48"
Acrylic latex on canvas

As the front man for what I consider one of the world's greatest rock 'n' roll bands, I had to paint Robert Plant. I wanted to highlight the strong confidence and almost arrogance of Robert when Led Zepplin was taking over the music world.

Robert Lockwood, Jr. by Neal Hamilton - Paint Out Loud, LLC
Robert Lockwood, Jr.
24" x 48"
Acrylic latex on canvas

Robert is also a good friend of mine and a fellow Clevelander. I have been blessed to have spent a great deal of time with him talking, laughing and learning from someone who is truly a legend in the music industry. This painting is inspired by a time when Robert was sitting in a club after a gig waiting for his ride. I had to capture that quiet, retrospective moment in his life.

Mick Jagger by Neal Hamilton - Paint Out Loud, LLC
Mick Jagger
24" x 48"
Acrylic latex on canvas

What can you say about Mick except that he's one of the most explosive personalities in music yesterday and today. I wanted to capture a serious mood and also show the young Mick, on the brink of his future stardom.

Madonna by Neal Hamilton - Paint Out Loud, LLC
Madonna
24" x 48"
Acrylic latex on canvas

Just as Prince became a challenge, so was painting Madonna. Just what period in her life do you portray to accurately capture the feeling you want to express? I decided on the classic "diva" pose from her Material Girl days, which translated very well in this painting.

Usher by Neal Hamilton - Paint Out Loud, LLC
Usher
24" x 48"
Acrylic latex on canvas

I wanted to do something different with Usher so I decided to split the image to just half of his face. The painting evolved into a powerful image of a young man on top of his game.

Prince by Neal Hamilton - Paint Out Loud, LLC
Prince
30" x 40"
Acrylic latex on canvas

Prince was a difficult painting for me. He has taken on so many looks in his career that I couldn't really decide which would be the most recognizable and memorable time period to use. I started one, but family and friends couldn't connect with it as much as my other paintings. I set it aside and completed this one, which shows a calm profile of Prince deep in the zone.

John Lennon by Neal Hamilton - Paint Out Loud, LLC
John Lennon
30" x 40"
Acrylic latex on canvas

Inspired by the commemoration of his 65th birthday, I completed Lennon last in this particular series of paintings. The solemn look on his face reminds us to "give peace a chance" as we reflect on a life cut way too short.

Bob Marley by Neal Hamilton - Paint Out Loud, LLC
Bob Marley
36" x 48"
Acrylic latex on canvas

What can I say except that Bob was the King of Reggae. This cool, down to earth man worked tirelessly to get his message to the world. He will never be forgotten. This portrait had to capture this deep man of all seasons.

James Brown by Neal Hamilton - Paint Out Loud, LLC
James Brown
36" x 48"
Acrylic latex on canvas

This portrait was created for a James Brown Tribute Concert hosted by Bootsy Collins in Cincinnati, Ohio. What a night it was! I remember growing up as a young man that my parents always had James Brown playing throughout the house. I see why they called him the Godfather of Soul.

Miles Davis by Neal Hamilton - Paint Out Loud, LLC
Miles Davis
36" x 48"
Acrylic latex on canvas

What can I say except that Miles was probably the deepest, darkest personality in the music business. I took a long time preparing for this portrait. How could I truly capture this legendary man. My mentor, Gary Thomas, told me I had to paint him in blue tones. I’m glad I listened and Miles is the only painting with this “look”. His portrait took me the longest to produce and it was well worth the time. I feel I truly captured his intense, dark, creative genius!

Peter Gabriel by Neal Hamilton - Paint Out Loud, LLC
Peter Gabriel
40" x 30"
Acrylic latex on canvas

This is my favorite painting in the series. Because of my personal connection with this painting, it became the signature piece of the recent exhibit at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I have always been a fan of Peter Gabriel and Genesis of old. It was Peter's lyrics and music that got me through many long nights to produce these paintings.

Spiderman by Neal Hamilton - Paint Out Loud, LLC
Spiderman
30" X 40"
Acrylic latex on canvas

I wanted to do Spider Man because of an interesting experience I had a few years ago. Cleveland, Ohio was the setting for part of the filming of Spider-Man 2. I got to be an extra – if you look hard you’ll see me in one of the “New York” street scenes. So, this portrait was not only important for me to do, but I have happy memories of my “acting experience.”

Ironman by Neal Hamilton - Paint Out Loud, LLC
Ironman
30" X 40"
Acrylic latex on canvas

After seeing the “Iron Man” movie, guess who was next on the list? Great film and powerful message. These superhero portraits were fun to do because we’re in a place in our lives that we could use some heroes to help save our planet!

Superman by Neal Hamilton - Paint Out Loud, LLC
Superman
36" X 48"
Acrylic latex on canvas

My team of advisors thought I should take a break from my usual musical focus and paint something different. Painting beloved superhero was the path I decided to take. When you think about who should be first, there really is no choice: Superman, of course! Who in the world doesn’t recognize and have an affection for the Man of Steel!

Batman by Neal Hamilton - Paint Out Loud, LLC
Batman
36" x 48"
Acrylic latex on canvas

I still remember when I got my first Bat Mobile model car as a kid. Wow! So, after the “Dark Knight” movie, I had to do this portrait.
